“Sara Marcus’s Girls to the Front is not only a historical rockument of the revolutionary 90s counterculture Riot Grrrl movement, which birthed the DIY feminist punk scene, but also a rousing inspiration for a new generation of empowered rebel girls to strap on guitars and stick it to The Man.” Vanity Fair

Sara Marcus has written about music and politics for numerous publications, including Slate, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Time Out New York, The Forward, and Heeb magazine, where she was politics editor for five years.

Radical Act is a documentary made in 1995 featuring some of the groundbreaking, female artists who burst onto the 1990's punk scene, claimed a space for women in rock, and came to be known as the Riot Grrrl movement. The film is both a celebration of some of our favorite rockers and how they came to be that way, as well as snapshot of a specific time in music history. Featuring: Kathleen Hanna (Bikini Kill, Le Tigre), Tribe 8, Toshi Reagon, Gretchen Phillips, Melissa York (Team Dresch, Vitapup, The Butchies), Meg Hentges, Kim Coletta (Jawbox, co-owner of DeSoto Records), Shirlé Hale (Mary Lou Lord, Gerty, Womyn of Destruction), Sincola, Sharon Topper (God is My Co-Pilot), journalist Evelyn McDonnell, author Victoria "Vicky" Starr, poet Jude O'Nym and Lisa WickWare. Not Rated; 52 minutes; 1995.
